Thai Developer Amata Charts New Course in Vietnam’s Northern Heartland

PHU THO, VIETNAM — In a landmark ceremony that signals a deepening of economic ties between Thailand and Vietnam, Amata VN Public Company Limited, a subsidiary of the Thai industrial giant Amata Corporation, has officially received the Investment Approval Decision and the Investment Registration Certificate (IRC) for its latest venture, the Amata City Phu Tho project (also referred to as Doan Hung Industrial Park).

The move, celebrated at the Phu Tho People’s Committee, marks a significant strategic expansion for Amata into Vietnam’s northern heartland and positions the project as a new hub for industrial innovation and sustainable growth.

The granting of the IRC, a legal document that authorises a foreign investor to contribute capital and operate a business in Vietnam, on 23rd December 2025, follows months of close cooperation and diplomatic efforts that underscore the mutual commitment to a prosperous future.

The groundwork for this pivotal moment was laid earlier this year, on May 16, 2025, when the Phu Tho Provincial People’s Committee and Amata VN signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) under the auspicious gaze of both Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and then Thai Prime Minister.

This initial MOU established a long-term and sustainable strategic partnership, with Phu Tho province pledging to provide maximum support to Amata in streamlining administrative procedures and facilitating the project’s implementation.

In return, Amata committed to leveraging its extensive experience and international network to attract high-quality investors around the world, particularly in high-tech and environmentally friendly sectors.

The Amata City Phu Tho project, also known as Doan Hung Industrial Park, spanning a vast 475.67 hectares, represents a total investment capital of US$ 185 million.
In accordance with the approved Investment Registration Certificate (IRC), the project will be developed in two phases. Phase 1, spanning 239.43 hectares, is scheduled for implementation from 2025 to 2029. Phase 2, covering 236.24 hectares, will follow from 2029 to 2033. The project has an operational term of 50 years, commencing on the date the IRC is issued.

The sheer scale of the development is a testament to Amata’s confidence in Vietnam’s burgeoning economy and its role as a regional manufacturing powerhouse.
At the ceremony, Ms. Somhatai Panichewa, CEO of Amata VN PCL, stated that this marks the company’s fifth approved project in Vietnam. It fulfills the commitment outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with the Phu Tho Provincial People’s Committee on May 16, 2025, an event witnessed by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the then-Prime Minister of Thailand.

“Amata will leverage its deep expertise and global network to attract high-quality worldwide investors, especially in high-tech and environmentally friendly sectors, to our industrial parks in Vietnam, including Amata City Phu Tho. To succeed, we need the local government’s support in land clearance.” she added.

Representing Phu Tho province, Mr. Tran Duy Dong commended Amata’s proactive efforts in advancing the project. “Amata’s proven capability and reputation in Vietnam, built over 30 years, make its decision to invest in Phu Tho particularly significant,” he said. “The province pledges full support to facilitate the project’s timely implementation. This will attract investors and make a substantial contribution to our local socio-economic development.”

The project’s strategic location is a key selling point. Positioned as a vital industrial hub in the Northern Gateway of Phu Tho province, Amata City Phu Tho boasts exceptional connectivity.

Its direct access to National Road 70 and the Phu Tho – Tuyen Quang Expressway ensures seamless connectivity to the Hanoi – Lao Cai Expressway, drastically reducing freight times to the Lao Cai Border Gate with China, Noi Bai International Airport and seaports. This logistical edge is further amplified by a planned railway linking Lao Cai to Quang Ninh, positioning the park to become the industrial logistics hub for the Northern Midlands.

With over three decades of experience in Vietnam, Amata has a proven track record of creating dynamic, modern industrial ecosystems.
The company has already successfully developed four industrial parks in the country: Amata City Bien Hoa, Amata City Long Thanh, Amata City Ha Long, and Quang Tri Industrial Park.

These developments have not only attracted over 220 tenants, including numerous Global Fortune 500 companies, but have also been built on a philosophy of ‘All Win’ — creating mutual success and sustainable value for all partners, customers, and communities.

Amata City Phu Tho, as the next chapter in this narrative, stands as a commitment to furthering Vietnam’s transition into a high-tech, sustainable industrial economy.
The development is designed to support Vietnam’s ambitious net-zero carbon goals by fostering high-value industries and attracting global leaders in automation, electronics, and sustainable manufacturing.

As Amata City Phu Tho moves from a blueprint to a reality, it signifies more than just a new industrial park. It represents a model of bilateral cooperation and a shared vision for a future where economic growth and environmental stewardship go hand-in-hand.For Amata, a company that has helped shape the industrial landscape of Southeast Asia by hosting over 1,600 factories across its developments in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar, this project is a bold new step.
For Phu Tho, it is a key to unlocking its full potential as a beacon of high-tech manufacturing and sustainable development in Northern Vietnam.
